How to get to know your singing voice

Lots of people want to start singing and this is a few easy tips to help you start.

Find your vocal range

This is the measure of octaves you can sing from the lowest to the highest. There are a lot of easy guides and comprehensive videos that can help you complete this step. ou should note there are 7 main vocal types. Soprano, Mezzo-Soprano, Alto, Countertenor, Tenor, Baritone and Bass.

Find your Tessitura

Your Tessitura is the range at which you are most comfortable and your voice sounds most pleasant. This is not the same as your vocal range this is a small group of notes you can sing easier, more comfortably and with more power. Finding this sweet spot will help you identify what kind of singer you want to be and what kind of songs you can sing. Also worth noting is that with training you can expand the range of notes you can sing with great power. Also if you are having trouble finding these notes listen to songs that you enjoy singing along to as there is a chance you prefer these because you like how you sound singing them.

Learn the right technique

If you are not using the right technique you may have a completely different voice to what you expect. Technique is what helps your voice stay clear and strong and can really improve your singing. Keep these tips in mind when practicing. Have good posture. This will help you breathe more easily and will keep your neck upright but relaxed. Also make sure to breathe from your diaphragm. To make sure just check that your stomach expands when you breathe in and deflate when you breathe out. Also make sure to open the back of your throat and enunciate your vowels when singing.
